Cet été, pensions et refuges sous étroite surveillance

La France compte plus de soixante millions d'animaux de compagnie... dont huit millions de chiens et dix millions de chats. Une bonne raison pour le ministère de l'Agriculture de lancer son Opération Protection Animale Vacances (OPAV). Durant les 3 mois d'été, l'accent sera mis sur une bonne information des futurs acquéreurs.

Cette opération a débuté le 15 juin pour s'achever le 15 septembre. Voil une bonne occasion de s'assurer du respect des règles relatives la protection animale. Pour ce faire, le ministère a décidé de renforcer les contrôles dans certains types d'établissements dont l'activité est en hausse l'été. Et les pensions ne sont pas les seules visées. Refuges, fourrières, établissements détenant des équidés ou lors de manifestations consacrées aux animaux (ferias...), rien ne sera oublié cet été.

Cette année, une action spécifique sera également conduite afin de vérifier le respect d'une bonne information au moment de l'achat d'un animal de compagnie. « Posséder un animal, c'est d'abord avoir de la disponibilité et faire preuve de responsabilité » explique le ministère de l'Agriculture. « Trop d'animaux, achetés ou recueillis sur un coup de tête, sont encore abandonnés l'approche des vacances : ces pratiques sont inacceptables. »

Rappelons au passage qu'en France, selon l'article 521-1 du code pénal, l'abandon d'un animal domestique est assimilable un acte de cruauté passible de 2 ans d'emprisonnement et 30 000€ d'amende.
